Electrostatic Heater Treaters can often be used in lieu of mechanical treaters and offer several advantages over mechanical treater.  Similar to Mechanical Heater Treaters, electrostatic heater treaters often will have the heating section utilizing gas fired firetubes to provide heating.

However,  in the coalescing section of the treaterr, electrostatic heater treaters utilized electric transformers to generate an electrostatic grid to enhance coalescence.  This results in often equipment with smaller footprints than comparable Mechanical treater units as well as able to achieve lower BS&W in the treated oil and lower salt content.
